Situated right before the entrance to the Chincoteague Natural Wildlife Refuge, the Museum of Chincoteague Island features a rich maritime history of the island and its people. Displays, short videos and artifacts can be found throughout the small self-guided museum. Families will find the first lens from the Assateague Island Lighthouse, displays of the famous Chincoteague wild ponies Misty and Stormy, and models of ships and one of the first fire engines used on the island. Participate in the museum scavenger hunt and search for the hidden gems of the museum.

Hours
In the summer, the museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. six days a week and closed on Mondays. In the spring and fall (Easter weekend to Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend to Thanksgiving), it is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Cost
$4 per person; children under 12 years old are free.

Parking
A small, free parking lot can be found just before entering the Chincoteague Natural Wildlife Refuge.
