Museum of the Earth

1259 Trumansburg Rd., Ithaca, 14850, NY

The Museum of Earth in Ithaca, New York is perfect for a rainy day (or a sunny day). Highlights at the museum — which offers a collection of nearly 3 million specimens — include a fossil exhibition called Journey Through Time, and Coral Reef Aquaria, representing ecosystems from the Indo-Pacific and Caribbean. The museum regularly rotates traveling exhibits for kids, too, with past favorites including “Do Dinosaurs Poop?”

The museum is typically open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with limited hours in the winter months. Admission is just $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children ages 4 to 17. Kids under age 3 get in free.
