National Museum of Natural History

10th Street and Constitution Ave, Washington, 20560, DC

As of 2014, this museum is home to a life-size T-Rex replica. And in 2019, the structure will become the centerpiece of a new Dinosaur Hall, following a $48-million renovation to Fossil Hall. Until then, other museum features include a Butterfly Pavilion, Insect Zoo, Naturalist Center, and — our favorite — a Forensic Lab, where visitors get to use real human bones to identify people. Admission to the museum is free.

The National Museum of Natural History is one of the Smithsonian museums — which area all free. It is also located near the National Mall, which is home to many memorials, monuments and museums.
