Oscar Scherer State Park

1843 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey, FL

Close to town, yet away from it all, this state park lets families explore nature on a number of pleasant trails, one that is barrier free with a butterfly observation area and fishing pier. The park rents kayaks and canoes for paddling its creek. Watch for the rare Florida scrub jay that lives here along with other bird species, raccoons, bobcats, rabbits, and raccoons. Freshwater Lake Osprey is good for fishing and hanging out on its sandy shores. Swimming is allowed in the roped-off area, but parents should be wary of alligators. The park also has nice picnicking and camping facilities.
