Perfect Turn Ski School

Sunday River Road, Newry, 04217, ME

For kids learning how to ski, the resort’s Perfect Turn Ski School has been in operation since the 1980s, pioneering a formula begun by then resort director Les Otten, who emphasized fun over a too rigid adherence to technical skills, based on the philosophy that if kids are enjoying themselves they are likely to keep coming back and learn more in the process. Another hallmark of the program is its small class sizes; group lessons offered in morning and afternoon are never more than eight students in size, and on weekdays frequently less. Special clinics for older kids are dedicated to free styling, teaching skiers and boarders how to properly take peak and pipe elements. During vacation weeks, the ski school sponsors additional programs such as mountainside scavenger hunts and non-competitive races.
