Perry’s Cave

Attraction

Perry’s Cave

979 Catawba Ave., Put-In-Bay, OH

Go underground to this Ohio Natural Landmark and discover what lies below in the natural limestone caves that are situated at Perry’s Family Fun Center. Families will need to watch their step while venturing down a short, but steep and narrow-stepped staircase to the cave that lies 52 feet below the surface of South Bass Island. The cave is 208 feet long and 165 feet wide and anyone over 5 feet tall will need to watch their heads during the short, guided 20-minute tour. Families will marvel at the stalactites, stalagmites and cave pearls throughout the floor and ceiling of the dark (but light) and damp cave. Water constantly drips from the ceilings so visitors will want to watch their step over the puddles and uneven cave floors.

A rare underground lake is also featured in the cave. The fresh water eludes an interesting greenish color due to years of copper pennies and coins once being thrown in the water. This is no longer permitted, but the water color remains. The temperature in the cave remains at about 50 degrees so dress accordingly; comfortable shoes with rubber soles are recommended.
