Little Harbour, Little Harbour

One artist inspired by Abaco’s beauty, Randolph W. Johnston settled his family in this remote bay mid-20th century to begin an adventure in self-reliance. The bronze sculptor — most famous for his Bahamian Woman statue at Nassau’s port — eventually built a foundry there and wrote a book about the family’s harrowing experiences.

Many of Johnston’s works and the works of other Bahamian artists — including his son, Peter, who now runs the operation — are on display in the gallery. Make an afternoon of the car or boat ride there to have lunch at the Robinson Crusoe-like pub and take a walk along the nature path. Call ahead to arrange a tour of the foundry, which specializes in large nature-inspired sculptures.
