Plaza Mayor

Attraction

The main square of the Spanish capital is, oddly, actually a rectangle — but don’t let semantics keep your family from reveling in the glory that is this 16th century plaza surrounded by three-story buildings with glorious balconies.

Have a bite to eat or simply stroll and people watch as Europeans do! Don’t forget to pose with Philip III on horseback – that statue dates back to 1616 and is regarded as one of the most valuable pieces of public art in the city.
