Pompeii

Attraction

Even schoolchildren have heard the tale of Mount Vesuvius’ surprise eruption that destroyed the entire city of Pompeii in 79 AD. Archeologists have uncovered the remains of buildings, artifacts, and even preserved bodies. It may be scary for younger children to see the bodies, but older kids can take in the situation and learn about the importance of this ancient Italian city. Most people who visit arrive by train, which stops directly outside the entrance, and they miss the new town of Pompeii. Don’t! It’s a cute little town with a nice town square and restaurants, as well as a tribute to America and September 11.
