Punta Sur

Attraction

The Mayan ruins are eclipsed by the incredible sea views (it’s safe to say you’ve rarely seen water this blue) at this tourist site on the southern tip of Isla Mujeres. Look for iguanas lazing on the rocks and bring plenty of sunscreen for the exposed walkout to the point from the parking lot. The ancient temple here was built to honor the Mayan moon goddess.

And while it’s little more than a pile of ruins today, you can still make out the structure and form and marvel at the location the people who built it chose — the point farthest east in Mexico, where the rising sun first bathes the land in morning light.
