The Racetrack

Attraction

The Racetrack

Death Valley National Park, CA

Be prepared — the drive to The Racetrack is a bumpy one along 20-plus miles of graded (but not paved) road, and low clearance vehicles may not fare well. But once you get to The Racetrack, you’re in for a strange sight. Rocks sit on the dry lake bed, but clearly have long tracks in the hardened mud behind them. The mystery of the moving rocks was only solved in 2014 by scientists, which may make the day-long trip less appealing. Vandals have also stolen some of the rocks in recent years. However, if your kids haven’t already Googled The Racetrack’s mystery, this could be the adventure that gets their imaginations revved up. Free.
