Go early in the morning or toward evening for the best chance of seeing mostly cool-climate animals moving around or munching meals at this 22-acre zoo near Interstate 94. Take an easy-to-follow circular path past 89 species such as camels, wolves and otters that can be viewed above or below water. The Fargo zoo also is known for breeding red pandas, Sichuan takin, Pallas’s cats and Russian red tree squirrels. Kids can feed the voracious goats and learn about farms at the petting zoo and ride the restored 1928 carousel. A limited number of zoo wagons and safari carts are available free of charge.

Hours
10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily late April through Labor Day; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily during the fall; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends only during the winter.

Admission
Free for children under 2; $7.75 for ages 2 to 14; $8.75 for seniors; and $9.75 for adults. Carousel rides are $2.
