Rockefeller Center

Between 47th and 51th Streets, From Fifth to Seventh Avenues, New York city, 10111, NY

It goes without saying that New York City simply wouldn’t be complete without Rockefeller Center. It is the location for New York City’s famous annual Christmas tree. Even if you don’t live in the city, you’ve most likely seen the tree lighting ceremony on your local news channels. And every year over half a million people take a direct part in the magic by skating on its historic ice rink.

But there’s much more to Rockefeller Center than winter time family fun. Families love the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, which provides for some of the best year-round sightseeing New York City has to offer. Enjoy 360-degree panoramic view of the Manhattan Skyline, as well as a breathtaking view of Central Park.

Or take a tour of the building and discover its rich history. Learn about the magnificent architecture, murals and other art found throughout the Rockefeller Center. The art deco architecture was very visionary for its mid-20th century time, and still mesmerizes people to this day. Next time your older kids watch their favorite episode of 30 Rock, they’ll recognize and know the story behind the art and sculptures found in the opening credits.

And after a fun-filled, interesting tour, feel free to sample some of New York’s best street food — an experience to be had by everyone at least once — at the Halal Guys, within walking distance, at the corner of 53rd and 6th. These trucks are known for plentiful portions of delicious, great quality chicken or lamb over rice with pita bread and lettuce. Be careful not to add too much of their famous, fire-hot red sauce!
