Roger Williams Park Zoo

1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence, 02907, RI

The Roger Williams Park Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the country. Located in Roger Williams Park in Providence, Rhode Island, the 40-acre zoo consists of outdoor fun with animals from around the world. While visiting the zoo, families can see zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, camels, snakes, tortoises, elephants and more. Daily giraffe feedings are offered for guests from Memorial Day to Halloween.

In 2014, the Alex and Ani Farmyard opened for children to learn about life on the farm. The area includes a petting zoo, with alpacas and goats. Hands-on activities in the Farmyard include the Egg Collection Station and the Milking Station.

In the Big Backyard area, children can play with water spray features and building blocks, or they can swing and climb on the jungle gym. There is also a treehouse for families to climb up for views of the zoo.

The zoo hosts multiple family-friendly events throughout the year, including Zoobilee! Feast With the Beasts in June, and the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular in the fall. The latter event features more than 5,000 illuminated jack-o-lanterns throughout the entire zoo.

General admission is free for kids ages 2 and under. The park is open from October to March, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and from April to September, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The zoo is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
