Rolle Town Tombs

Attraction

A majority of Great Exuma residents have the last name Rolle because they took the name of their slave master, plantation owner Lord Denys Rolle, once they were emancipated. One of the most famous Rolles, Esther Rolle, who played in TV’s “Good Times,” has relatives in Rolle Town. Rolle Town remains part of their legacy, and it makes for a nice visit en route to Little Exuma.

Quiet, residential, and tidy, it overlooks hauntingly beautiful Moriah Bay. Look for the faded heritage sign on the left side of the road. It marks the location of plantation-era tombs that date to 1792.
