Route 66 Historic District

6th Ave., Amarillo, TX

A small portion of Route 66 runs through Amarillo. Families can drive along the mile-stretch of road and stop at one of the antique shops or cafes.

The Nat antique market is definitely a place to stop and wander around. It opened as a Natatorium, or open-air swimming pool, in 1922, and then was converted to a ballroom in 1926. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Nat closed to public dancing in the 1960s and sat vacant for years before housing the marketplace that it is today. Families will find new, vintage and handmade pieces at The Nat.
