Royal British Columbia Museum and IMAX Theater

675 Belleville St., Victoria

Located in downtown Victoria, this large museum and IMAX Theater takes visitors through the natural and human history of Canada’s British Columbia. The First People’s Gallery displays giant totem poles, masks, authentic artifacts and a sound gallery with recorded First People saying “hello” in a variety of their native languages. Children will love pushing each button to hear each unique language. Check out the giant woolly mammoth, ancient fossils, a giant ship, Egyptian artifacts and an old British Columbia town set during the Gold Rush period.

After exploring the museum, head to the attached IMAX Theater for a 3D movie under the ocean or around the Earth. The Oceans and Earth films are two great ones for families. Each film runs about 40 minutes and is kid friendly. A small variety of currently running movies can also be seen here. Families can easily spend several hours at the museum, with additional time spent at the IMAX theater.
