Sabino Canyon provides a great taste of life in the desert foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The mountain views, canyons, and desert flora and fauna here are very popular with tourists and locals — drawing in over one million a year. Though hiking and recreational spots in the Tucson area are plentiful, Sabino Canyon has the unique draw of guided tram tour! This allows families with people of all ages and fitness/mobility levels the ability to enjoy the splendor of the canyon.
At the recreation area, Sabino Canyon Tours offers a narrated tram ride that lasts 45 minutes if taken all the way up the canyon (almost 4 miles). The tram ride has 9 stops along the way and ticket holders may get on and off at any stop along the route. There are many hiking trails there to choose from. So, families can pack a picnic lunch and plan to spend all day exploring the area or just come to enjoy the views via the tram ride. The visitor center is open daily, seven days a week 8 a.m. to 4:30pm (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas days).
