With more than 500 animals, the Sacramento Zoo is located in downtown Sacramento and provides a wildlife haven in the midst of the city. The lush grounds of William Land Park feature native, exotic and endangered species. Families can picnic and enjoy walking paths. The zoo offers a train and a carousel, and parking is free.
The zoo opens at 9 a.m. from February to October and at 10 in the winter months, closing at 5 p.m. throughout the year. It is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
