Sallier Oak

204 West Sallier Street, Lake Charles, LA

Take a moment to appreciate one of the oldest and largest trees in Louisiana. On the grounds of the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, the Sallier Oak is thought to be about 375 to 400 years old with limbs so long that many touch the ground. The oak was struck by lightning 150 years ago, splitting her trunk. Locals wrapped a large chain around her trunk to hold the oak together. The chain can still be seen today where it grew into the tree. Cool photo op.
