Smith-McDowell House Museum

The oldest surviving home in Asheville is the Smith-McDowell House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Exhibits include a look back at the Smiths, the McDowells and the Garretts who lived in the home and worked the land, as well as the history of explorers, settlers and Native Americans in the area. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. It is closed Monday and Tuesday, as well as major holidays. Children under 7 are free of charge to see the museum.
