Attraction

St. Joseph North Pier Lighthouse

North Pier St, Saint Joseph, 49085, MI

The two range lights, built in 1907 at the North Pier, sit on the mouth of the St. Joseph River and Lake Michigan. The two lights are connected by an elevated catwalk that extends from the shore to the outer lighthouse. This walkway was once used to allow lightkeepers to access the light through rough winters when the waters would reach as high as the catwalk and snow and ice would often freeze around the catwalk and lighthouses.

On a clear day, it’s easy to see the difference in the two bodies of water and where they meet. Families can walk out to the pier and take a self- or one-hour-guided tour of the pier and lighthouses. The guided tour allows visitors to learn the history of the lighthouse, as well as climb to the top of the inner lighthouse for amazing Lake Michigan and Silver Beach views.

Many locals often spend time fishing off the pier, so bring a fishing pole if you’re interested.
