Start with Lincoln Peak in the morning, with a good warm-up run on the blue Jester, the first trail ever cut on the mountain. If that’s a little too much, go with the wider Valley House Traverse. By all means take the Slide Brook Express over to Mount Ellen, offering breathtaking views of Mad River Valley. Rim Run and Lower Rim Run off the Summit Quad on Mount Ellen are fun cruisers to play on in the afternoon. After a good snow, there are few runs for advanced skiers that are as sublime as the old classics, Castlerock and Stein’s Run. Egan’s Woods, off of Stein’s, is named for extreme skier, John Egan, who owns a house and restaurant in the area. Microbears introduces potty-trained 3 year-olds to the thrill of skiing. There are also half-day and full-day programs for Mini Bears (ages 4-7) and Sugar Bears (7 to 12). Also ask about the resorts’ Adventure Programs which offer kids freestyle and backcountry instruction. There’s also Day Care Cubs, an indoor center for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years old.
