Sunday River Ski Resort

Sunday River Road, Newry, 04217, ME

With eight peaks to choose from, the mountain can be somewhat bewildering to beginners. Conveniently, however, most of the green and blue stuff is in the middle, with plenty of bunny slopes for the kids centered around the hub at South Ridge Lodge. On either side of the resort, meanwhile, are plenty of advanced black diamonds. There’s lots of challenging mogul skiing and near-vertical swooshers off White Cap and Barker Mountain, including the famous Agony, which still lives up to its name. On the other side of the mountain, Oz and Jordan Bowl offer more of an outback skiing with plenty of glade action for tree-skiers. A new “boundary-to-boundary” policy introduced this past year had formalized what locals have been doing for years: allowing skiers to go off the trails and through the woods anywhere on the mountain. The resort also offers several dedicated snowboard trails, groomed for free styling, and four terrain parks, including a glade area known as The Sticks, accessible right from the Grand Summit Hotel. On Friday and Saturday nights, the resort also offers a good amount of night skiing on the bunny slopes around South Ridge.
