Walk-Up Trail

Stone Mountain Park, Stone Mountain, 30083, GA

The journey to the top of Stone Mountain Park covers 1.3 miles and traverses rocky territory. While the hike itself is not too strenuous along the way, it does require climbing over big and small rocks in uneven terrain. Therefore, parents should advise children not to run or jump along the way. Near the summit, there is a steep section, which you will recognize by the installed handrails to guide walkers up and down. Parents should assist small children to help them avoid slips and falls. At no point along the trail or on the summit (unless you go right up to the fence) is there a danger of being “right on the edge.” Once at the top, visitors can enjoy the panoramic views of downtown Atlanta, the surrounding suburbs and even the North Georgia Mountains. There’s also a building with restrooms, a snack bar and souvenirs, which operates on the same schedule as the Summit Skyride. NOTE: There is no shuttle service between the Summit Skyride and the entrance to the walking trail; therefore, you cannot take one route up and a different route down. Admission is free with paid parking.
