Westminster Abbey

Broad Sanctuary, SW1P 3PA, London, SW1P 3PA

One of the most prominent buildings in England, Westminster Abbey dates back to 1245 when King Henry III built the Gothic-style structure as a place of worship for the people of Britain. The church is now home to more than 3,000 deceased kings, queens, soldiers, writers and other affluent figures in British history, such as King Henry III and Charles Dickens. Families will find paintings, books, clothing and more throughout the Abbey, and the museum section is located in one of the oldest areas of the church. If your family is not interested in British history, Westminster Abbey is still a site to see, as it was the location of the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in April 2011. Admission is approximately $30 USD per adult, $14 USD per child age 11 to 18, and free for kids 10 and under. Weekly events often include choir performances or organ recitals.
