Opened in 1971, Mountain Meadows is set high in a mountain hollow at 1,400 feet near the slopes of Killington. Of the 57 km of trails, the ones around Kent Lake are ideal for novices. The sweeping Pond Plunge or Orchard trails are popular with experienced skiers who twist through the woods past old apple tree groves. The ski center is known for its exemplary ski school run by former US Olympic coach, Mike Gallagher. The rental shop is also one of the best in the state with lots of high-end demos and gear for sale. Another perfect spot for gliding in almost guaranteed snow is the Mountain Top Cross Country Ski Resort. The first commercial cross country ski center in the state, Mountain Top offers 60 km of trails through the woods and fields with picturesque views of Chittenden Reservoir and the main ridge of the Green Mountains.
