4th time visiting and it's still great.

by vinyldust

We just returned from our 4th week long visit at Aventura. I'll split my comments in 2 areas.

1) The hotel is still a great quiet oasis. Beautiful gardens and pool areas- great staff that are all friendly, the hotel is always clean and rooms are tidied up daily - even folding some of our loose pieces of clothing and tidying up our phone chargers and such - This time we were on the ground floor - It was nice not having to go up all the stairs (especially after a couple cervezas) but admittedly a bit more noise from the street. The front desk staff are always super helpful, and Luis also helped arrange a private day trip that was great - his connections and knowledge of the area are great. The hotel upkeep is still great - everything functioning including cold air conditioning in rooms, and the maintenance team were constantly doing things on our stay as usual - none of which interrupts your time there.

2) I would leave a 5 star without question, but had to drop it down to 4 because of the current situation with the Mayan Bistro. As of April 20th, 2019 - It's only there to do the continental breakfast, and after 11am - is only a bar. There is no longer any food service for any meals - no lunch, no dinner. (and not even paid breakfast or snacks) As a guest who's stayed here several times, We really enjoyed having a few meals at the hotel, and certainly on arrival from the airport so you could settle in. Mid afternoon by the pool, you can't order a single snack to go with the drinks they're serving. None of the staff seem to know what's happening with the kitchen, and if/when it will be open again. And I feel awful for the staff who are now left just sitting around on their phones until 10pm hoping someone comes by for a drink.

The continental breakfast is also now a bit weird - it's not buffet, it's served: 2 pieces of toast per person, baked pastries, a plate with a few pieces of fruit and a ramekin of yogurt, and if you're early enough, a selection of a few cereals (they ran out 5 of the 7 days we were there...)

So, to summarize - It's honestly a great hotel, and we'll most likely return again for some relaxation. But if you've seen mentions of the food/restaurant as a draw - you will likely be disappointed until management sorts out their plans there.

Once again, we enjoyed our stay. Staff is friendly and helpful and remembers us each visit. The changes that were made since our last trip regarding the restaurant were a disappointment, but we will be back in a few months.
