Overview

Featuring just 20 rooms, this boutique hotel on a quiet crescent-shaped bay features an infinity pool and massive porches and verandas from which to enjoy the view. Rooms come with two queens or one king bed. Other than the pool and the beach, there’s nothing much to do here. But it’s all just a few minutes away by car and car rental (available onsite).

Not great

by unhappygiakalis

Stayed here for 10 days, in October, rooms were dirty and not maintained to a 4 star standard, garden area full of weeds and decking area rotting in places, All inclusive is unlike any hotel I have been to..it finishes at 10PM,...you cant even get a bottle of water or a tea after that time..unless you pay,.the rooms smell a mixture of damp , faeces, or bleach,...the toilets in reception are shabby, the ones in the beach bar shocking...even the drinks dispenser in the restaurant at breakfast is rusty...to few staff who have to multi task...the receptionist is one of the ladies who does massages, the maintenance man is the hotel taxis driver, waitress does cleaning...the staff look like they are worked to death...long hours and not enough of them, to their credit..they were very polite and helpful..but looked tired.a shame they don't seemed to be appreciated by the hotel management..as the Philippine staff employed by the hotel are 5 star....a mentioned to Denny who seems to work long hours and is always polite and helpful
I would rate this hotel 2 star...food is repetitive but good but not all on the inclusive plan, hotel not good for anyone withr mobility issues due to large amount of steps and decking which isn't maintained...pictures on website do not look much like the hotel .
I'm sure there must be better items in Tobago.....if it was advertised as 2 star and room maintainedand clean..then I wouldn't leave Duchenne a negative review

Not a 4 star hotel

by Jockey1963

Just back from holiday...and felt I must review this hotel on trip advisor to warn that this is not a 4 star hotel..the photos on the website were taken when this hotel first open they are a poor reflection on how this hotel actually looks now..
On arriving we were shown a room that was dirty wall dirty linen on bed stained rusty dirty shower and the room smelling of mould....was shown another room along from the first just as bad ..then was taken to a room by the pool next to reception..as the staff showing us the room opened the door the smell of damp mould was so bad we diddnt even go into the room..
After refusing 3 damp smelly rooms 2 of which were not clean..we were taken to a newer part of the hotel..and shown a 2 room suite which smelt strongly of bleach..this was clean and because other members of our group were unhappy with their filthy room ..the manager said they would put the 4 of us in this room...
No apology for the fact we had been trying to get a clean room for 2 hours plus..all this after a long flight from UK
Next day another member of staff arrives demanding 400 Us dollars for the upgrade ....to a clean room!!!
We paid as we felt we had no option..but I said that I would be leaving a very frank review on trip advisor.
What's good about this hotel...the staff Jenny and donna and Francis are fantastic..in fact most of the staff were lovely but..they need more staff...as the hotel is seriously neglected the photos on the website show a smart chic hotel..not the shabby one we stayed at with dodgy rotting decking..one of our party stood on part of the decking by the pool and it crumbled bruising her foot and leg where she fell through it..
The massages were great...
Food ..not all of the menu is on the all inclusive and we stayed for 10 days so very repetitive but not bad
No bottled water given with dinner just a jug of tap water that tastes of chemicals...the all inclusive finishes at 10pm so unless you pay you won't get a snack or drink after this time...beach bar shuts at 3pm..and it's a long way up to get a Drink at restaurant...the beach bar toilets are filthy...lost for words when I went to use them...in fact I diddnt!..
Beach bar itself quaint..and great for lunch..lots of cats and kittens about..which I feel was a good thing..so no mice or rats...
Steps down to beach dangerous no one with a mobility issues would be able to access the beach ..beach had piles of rubbish stacked up ..but there is some maintenance..
Every morning we woke up to the smell of really strong bleach..our eyes were hurting..the bleach is put into sanitation system loos and drains as if this isn't done the smell of sewage and poo..makes the rooms in the newer block smell...
This hotel needs maintenance and more staff grounds full of weeds crumbling rotten decking..
Catch phrase for our holiday was 'it's not in your all inclusive '..dirty rooms ..run down resort...nice staff..Food and drinks ok..but limited.
Photos on website were taken a few years ago and nothing is maintained to any sort of standard that would suggest a 4 star hotel..
2 star hotel at best.....
