Want to be in the hub of the Mission beach area? And not see the inside of a car for days? The Bahia Resort Hotel is your answer. When you stay at the Bahia (pronounced: Ba-Hee-A) you can actually see SeaWorld and can walk to most anything your family desires. How about family-friendly Mission Beach or the Belmont Park, home to the famous Big Dipper roller coaster? Or you can stroll to a variety of shops, nice restaurants and pizza-by-the-slice-type places. You’ll also find gourmet coffee shops, spots to pick up a cone and plenty of fast food. Or, when the kids are napping, lounge on your room’s deck and take in the gorgeous bay view with something cold.

We stayed at Bahia resort for a family getaway to San Diego. The resort is an older property, but not a bad thing, sort of "Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii" retro cool vibe. We asked, and paid for a larger room, which had a separate 2-queen bedroom, and large living area. It was spacious, with room for the 4 of us to stretch out. The partial view of the bay was very nice. The only downside was just one bathroom for the sink, tub, and toilet, which cause some bottlenecks in the morning. Housekeeping kept the rooms very clean, with plenty of towels.
The property itself had lots to do. We enjoyed the pool, cabanas on the beach, free play video arcade, and evening cruise on the paddle ship. In retrospect, we wish we would have spent one day just at the resort (instead of a theme park) to enjoy the other amenities- tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball, more time on the beach. Mission Beach, with Belmont Park and restaurants, is just a 5-minute walk away.
While this was summertime and often very busy, the resort never felt so crowded that one couldn't move around.
The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Everyone we passed would give a cheerful hello.
We did not eat at the restaurant, but enjoyed the Airstream cafe with their tasty breakfast selection, fast and friendly service, and view of the harp seal pool.
The location is the big sell here in that it is located on the waterfront. It provided free ferry boat rides in the evenings, and had “special” events such as live band with a beach party. The pool was very nice, and had someone singing and playing the guitar.
The facility itself was somewhat dated, but clean and adequate. Great place for a family.
