Reviews

Beautiful, clean, and relaxing

by hhomc

This was the third trip my wife and I have made to Bear Creek over the last 6 years. This trip we brought our four children with us. It is nearly a three hour drive away, so we don’t come often, but we have enjoyed something different at each visit. We have stayed in a King suite and a standard room as a couple, and a two queen suite with our 4 kids(15, 12, 12, and 12). It isn’t easy to find hotels that house 6 of us in one room, but even harder to find one with such nice accommodations.

We enjoyed their trails end cafe for breakfast (great job by staff who showed me actual ingredient label for blueberry muffin mix so I could comfortably allow my son with a peanut allergy to enjoy it) and the Grille for dinner (a great meal, although the lobster bisque wasn’t worth the cost as it was bland and had barely a tinge of lobster flavor). I enjoyed the salmon with chili sauce and shrimp potstickers over noodles and vegetables while my wife enjoyed a colossal crab cake - both were fantastic. The kids had standard burgers and a chicken club, all which were commented as delicious and they all loved the buns the sandwiches were served on and the warm rolls that came out while we waited for dinner to be served.

We enjoyed the outdoor pool (yes in early November in Pennsylvania) as well as the indoor pool and hot tub. We also sat by the fireplace in the lobby and played some of the provided board games together.

We had a small issue with room placement, which was addressed by the managerial staff as soon as it was brought to their attention.

On past visits, we have enjoyed using the paddle boats and kayaks, as well as the cigar and spirits event.

We will certainly be back.

Family Activities

Skiing
Bear Mountain features 21 trails for skiing and snowboarding, with terrain for all abilities. The resort features a Snowsports School with unique Discovery and Discovery Plus programs for kids getting started, private lessons and Kodiak Kids programs, which include lift tickets and rentals for half-day programs. Three terrain parks include Cascade Park, Black Bear Park and Family Park, with the easiest trails. Four lifts and carpet lifts are available.

Youth Discovery Packages are for first-time skiers or riders ages 8 to 12 and includes two-hour, fully supervised lessons with a flexible start time. Discovery Plus lessons help skiers manage green trails. The Kodiak Kids programs are 2.5-hour group instruction for Rovers, ages 6 and 7, and Rangers, ages 6 to 12. Discovery Plus and Discovery packages are available for ages 13 and up, as well.

Snowtubing
Four snowtubing lanes are available during winter months, with evening weekday sessions and day and night sessions on weekends.

Pools
Guests can enjoy heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools and hot tubs year-round. Pools are available in the North Tower and Mountainside locations. Outdoor pools are open morning to night during summer months, and afternoon through evening in the winter. The indoor pool is open year-round from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Summer Fun
During warm months, the ski trails become hiking and mountain biking trails, and families can enjoy playing tennis, basketball, disc golf, volleyball, badminton and more. Geocaching is also available.

The Spa at Bear Creek
Spa treatments are available for children, with both a kids' spa and teen spa selection. Kids ages 6 to 12 can enjoy a Cinderella Facial or Ice Cream Sundae Manicure and Pedicure. Teens, 13 to 17, can enjoy teen massages, express facials and Star Treatment Wraps.

Daycare
For children ages 6 months to 6 years, daycare is available during ski season so older kids and parents can enjoy the slopes. Rates are charged per hour, per child, with hours extending past dinnertime. Games, toys and snacks are provided by certified child supervisors.

Family Dining

There are three onsite dining options during the winter months and two during summer for Bear Creek Resort. The Grille, with its views of the mountain, is an a la carte, full-service restaurant serving a fine selection for lunch and dinner, as well as an extensive wine and beer list. Trail's End Café is a bistro-style restaurant with soup, salad, sandwiches and pizza, providing a casual meal. During the winter, the Mountain Eatery overlooks the mountain with a large outdoor deck and stone fireplaces to provide cafeteria-style dining.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
Cribs are available complimentarily; rollaway beds are available at a fee.

Wi-Fi is complimentary across the lodge, hotel and resort, although service is hard to find on the mountain.

A Ski Shop provides ski, snowboard, boot, helmet and pole rentals. A ski shop is also available to purchase additional gear or replace lost hats or gloves.

The Art of Smart Timing
The resort is known mainly for its small ski mountain. With 83 acres and nearly two dozen trails, the mountain makes for an easy weekend getaway from major cities and can become quite crowded. Due to the crowds, weekend and holiday bookings during ski season require a two- or three-night minimum stay, and may require a full deposit.

Getting There
Bear Creek is just one hour from Philadelphia, two hours from New York City, 2.5 hours from Baltimore and 3.5 hours from Washington, D.C. via car.

Getting Around
Once on the resort, you don't need a car to enjoy all of the amenities. However, if you would like to visit nearby attractions, you will need a car. Plenty of parking is available. The Crayola Experience is 30 miles away, Dorney Park is 12 miles away, Historic Bethlehem is 25 miles away, and the DaVinci Science Center is 13 miles away.

For Mom and Dad
The Spa at Bear Creek is a full-service spa with steam room, indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs and fitness center. Adults will find treatment rooms for massages, body treatments, facials and salon services.
