6 Best Family Resorts in St. Thomas

See recent posts by Amanda Geronikos

St. Thomas is the most family-friendly vacation destination in the U.S. Virgin Islands, since it offers the most things to do — think zip-ling, parasailing, and hiking, plus a visit to the Coral World Ocean Park & Undersea Observatory. It also offers more resorts (or resort-style accommodations) than its siblings, St. Croix and St. John. Consider a stay at one of these hotels for your family vacation in St. Thomas, recommended by our staff of experts and other family travelers.

The Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas

The Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas is located on 30 acres of oceanfront, where families can snorkel, sail or simply relax on the powder-soft sand. The beautiful resort features an oceanfront, infinity-edge swimming pool and four restaurants, plus the option to have a family barbecue dinner on the beach. The resort may just be the most family-friendly in St. Thomas, with children"s spa services, family movie nights, a kids" pool and a kids" club, Ritz Kids, where youngsters participate in lawn games, play with sand art and more.

Marriott Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Beach Resort

Pictures don"t do it justice. The Marriott Frenchman"s Reef & Morning Star Beach Resort seems like it"s on an island of its own and features magnificent views -- no matter where you are. The infinity-edge pool, for example, looks as if it goes right into the ocean. Guestrooms, too, are just steps from Morning Star Beach (and have kitchenettes). There are nine specialty restaurants onsite, as well as a spa.

Marriott’s Frenchman’s Cove

Located on the same property as Marriott Frenchman"s Reef & Morning Star Beach Resort, Marriott Frenchman"s Cove is even better for families (and more luxurious). It features a secluded beach, oceanfront pool, and colorful villas with two or three bedrooms. All villas have fully equipped kitchens and balconies, too. There"s one onsite restaurant, plus a market where families can stock up on snacks and other items for their villa. Families may also visit the adjacent resort to enjoy its restaurants.

Bluebeard’s Beach Club

At Bluebeard"s Beach Club, families can stay in a Studio Suite with one king bed and a sleeper sofa, or a One-Bedroom Condo with a private bedroom, sleeper sofa and a kitchenette; all accommodations have private balconies. The oceanfront resort has a swimming pool, water sports center, gift shop and laundry facility. A buffet dinner is also available.

Secret Harbour Beach Resort

Resort-style amenities and vacation rentals come together at Secret Harbour Beach Resort in St. Thomas. The property offers one- and two-bedroom “suites” with fully equipped kitchens and private balconies or patios. BEST WESTERN PLUS Emerald Beach

If you think a BEST WESTERN can"t possibly be a good choice in the Caribbean, think again. BEST WESTERN PLUS Emerald Beach, indeed, fronts emerald-green waters, and features water sports, a swimming pool, and an onsite restaurant, plus a pool bar. Many guestrooms feature beachfront balconies, and all provide free Wi-Fi.
