Located 45 minutes from downtown Chicago, the BEST WESTERN PLUS Portage Hotel & Suites is right near Lake Michigan and offers a comfortable family stay at a good price. Room types include those with doubles, queens or king size beds and cribs and rollaways can be requested, too. A free hot breakfast is dished up daily and families can also take advantage of the onsite exercise facility and convenient laundry services. The hotel also has a hot tub and pool area with plenty of seating. Additionally, there’s a pub off the lobby that openings in the evenings and is a good place for a night cap if you can steal away for a bit.

Nice Hotel, not small group friendly

by O-FHousehold

We were forced to reserve 3 rooms for 17 people when only 10 were staying; several friends came to celebrate my son's 7th birthday by eating dinner and swimming then leaving. We could have only paid for 2 rooms (1 double queen suite and 1 double room) and saved $150 but they couldn't accommodate us by giving us a place to eat (pizza, ice cream cups, and cupcakes) as a group. Nor would they give us extra wrist bands for the pool (several parent's didn't even swim and only stuck around because their child wasn't staying the night). We had to split into 3 rooms to eat and eat separately. The bathrooms were clean except the corners around the back of the toilet. The heaters worked too good. I set one at 72 and it just kept running making the room very HOT so I just shut it off. The only workers that I found friendly from day one was the lady working the front desk when we were checking out and the housekeeping gentleman from India that played ball with my son in the hall when we were finishing packing up. The pool area was a blast even though the water was cold. I could see us going back again, but I wouldn't plan on eating anything except breakfast together.

First time at a Best Western Hotel that did not fill my request for a Military discount price!
I always received Military rates before, and I was in town for a Commissioning of a United States Naval war ship, USS Indianapolis at Burns Harbor along with thousands of others.
