Overview

Black Mountain Ranch is located high in the Rockies halfway between Vail and Steamboat Springs in Colorado. This is an all-inclusive ranch, and guests arrive on Sunday afternoons when their weeklong package begins. This package includes lodging, all meals, unlimited horseback riding, an overnight pack trip, a longhorn cattle drive, whitewater rafting, fly and spin fishing, rifle and trap shooting, and mid-June through mid-August, a trip to the local rodeo. There are no hidden or extra fees for any of the ranch activities.

What makes this ranch a little unique is that they own all of their own horses and take pride in finding the right horse for each rider. Aside from riding, you will find the ranch’s expertise in many outdoor activities offered during the week stay. For trail riding, it is six years of age and older.

Black Mountain Ranch offers three types of lodging and three price tiers depending on accommodations. There is a standard suite and private cabins and premium private cabins to choose from. When it comes to meals, there is an onsite chef who creates gourmet meals daily and there are plated and buffet dinners. They can accommodate any food allergies or dietary restrictions.

Perfect adventure for "senior" rider

by Marti A

Never, ever have I had so much fun and adventure packed into one week. I visited the ranch during "adult week" and not only rode to my heart's content, I also learned to fly-fish, throw a lasso, roundup cattle, and went white-water rafting for the first time. Pretty good for 70++! Their horses are first class trail horses and very well cared for. The food is gourmet every meal. The setting of the ranch is exquisite, high in the Rockies (we received lots of instruction about coping with the altitude). The staff is enthusiastic and very caring, and, all in all, I'd give it a "10" if I could.

Special place , great times

Our family returned to BMR for our third stay there. Once again, we had the best week of our holiday in this haven. Great food, lovely horses, amazing vistas, enough activities to keep us occupied and importantly an environment where not being frenetically engaged is fine too - never been so happy not to have a phone signal or limited wifi! The family feel of the place is what makes it so special : guests and wranglers staff feel as one while everything remains tip top : a remarkable balance to acheive. The number of returning guests, and members of staff who were guests as kids, are testament to the sound judgement and choices the owners have made in building the team and the ranch. Thanks as ever !
