Overview

For tired travelers, these cute little log cabins all lined up in a neat row in the center of Tok are a welcome sight. The setting, right off the Alaska Highway, may not be spectacular, but the cabins are clean, comfortable, and fun to stay in. Kids will immediately wonder why there’s a lawn on top of each one as they notice the sod roofs. Inside, you’ll find two queen beds and all the modern amenities, such as a refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, satellite TV and free Wi-Fi. A delicious free breakfast, featuring huge Belgian waffles, is served in the main lodge, which also houses the Burnt Paw Gift Shop.

Cabins Outback is located at the intersection of the Alaska Highway and the Tok Cut-Off. Because of its importance as a stop on the famous highway, Tok has a good number of grocery stores and restaurants, all within walking distance of your cabin. Across the highway is the popular Fast Eddy’s, where you can grab a burger or steak. You can stock up on groceries at the Three Bears grocery store or any of several small convenience stores in town. Kids will quickly discover the playground across the highway from the cabins. It’s right next to the Tok Visitors Center, where you can learn about the history of the area. Staff at the center can also point you toward local hiking trails, fishing spots and the swimming beach at Moon Lake. The Cabins Outback are not just in a great location, but they’re surprisingly comfortable and are sure to create some happy memories on your big family vacation to Alaska.

NORTH TO ALASKA

by webbfoot

Stayed here one night on our way back to the lower 48. We stayed in Wolf Cabin, which was a small but clean and comfortable cabin. It turned cold that night and wind blew hard al Night, cabin was very noisy from wind, sounded like animals running across floor and up walls. We enjoyed the Sled Dog Racing Exhibits in a shed across from cabin. Without the wind noise I would have rated 5 stars.

Great and unusual place to stay

Gemstone on Alaska highway. Very nicely and cozy cabins, we enjoyed the wolf cabin.
Breakfast in a gift shop? Unusual but everything you need was there.
Thanks again! Some benches around the corner in the sun would be nice
