With prime beachfront property on Sanibel, a century-old tradition of hospitality and arguably the best swimming pool in the region, there’s a lot to like about Casa Ybel. All 114 one- and two-bedroom suites come with full kitchens and barbecue grills just outside. There’s also a Kids Club for ages 3 to 12, tennis courts, sailing, kayaking and, this being Sanibel, shell-seeking.

To be fair, the service while we were there was pretty good. We did have an issue during our stay and, during our checkout, we requested a call back from a manager. After waiting several days and no call, I called and left another message. After another few days with no call, I called back and was put through to the voicemail of the General Manager. A couple of days later, I finally received a call back from the Operations Manager who assured me that they would look into our issue and call me back.
Yep, you guessed it, Nothing! I then sent one final email voicing my displeasure and frustration with the lack of follow-up and have received nothing in return. To summarize, the property is ok but the fact that ownership doesn't care enough about their customers to provide basic customer service is very concerning. We will certainly not consider staying there again.
Our family of four stayed in a 2br/2bth with full kitchen unit this past week and truly enjoyed our relaxing vacation at the beach. The unit was clean, with ample supplies/appliances for 4 people. We spent every day at the beach just steps from our room. The king size bed wasn’t as firm as ours at home so hubby and I didn’t always get a good night sleep. The resort charges extra to rent lounge chairs for the beach ($125 for 2 chairs and umbrella for the week) and non-motorized sports (land or water sports) so just be aware not every activity/amenity is included in your rental fee.
The pool area was nice but grabbing 4 lounge chairs (these were free:) together was not easy. Staff at Coconuts poolside bar and Thistle lodge restaurant were very friendly, pool hut attendants were hit or miss. Most days we would get a friendly greeting, some days attendant was on his cell phone and not paying attention to guests.
We would go back again and recommend this resort for families looking to relax, the gulf is calm with small waves for younger kids, beach has great shelling, and you can save some money by cooking your own meals if so inclined.
