Overview

Like many accommodations on the island, this is a very tiny, intimate choice, perfect for those who like attention to detail. The hotel has five rooms and is perched on the hillside in Picard, Portsmouth, very close to the water. It is only three minutes from the Ross University Campus and often houses parents of the students attending the school.

The hotel has three floors, with a main staircase connecting everything to the breakfast area, restaurant and bar on the top floor. There is a local cook onsite that prepares a fusion of international and local cuisine every evening, and on Friday evenings, hosts a Fancy Dining. Onsite there are also offer wood-oven pizzas on weeknights except Friday. The hotel recently constructed a pool that is quite a hit with families.

There are two types of rooms from which to choose. The Garden Rooms have queen-size beds, air conditioning, ceiling fan, bathrooms with a modern design face basin, and a shower with overhead, hand and massage. The terrace offers sea views of Prince Rupert Bay and Cabrits, and access to the nice garden with winding footpaths.

The Superior Rooms are on the first floor and have king-size beds, air conditioning, ceiling fan, bathroom with spacious double face basins and a shower with overhead, hand and body massage. The terraces offer a 270-degree view of Portsmouth, Cabrits and Rupert Bay. There is either a sofa bed in the room, or a double layer airbed can be placed at request (note: third person at surcharge.)

Great beginning on Dominica

by cstocker

I had a wonderful 2 night stay at Champs. Lise, Sabrina and the rest of the staff were so welcoming and helpful. The use of a local phone during my stay was invaluable.

My room was very comfortable and loved the air conditioning, and had water (not bottled) available every day. There's a safe, refrigerator and tea kettle available in the room too.

Thank you Lise for your wonderful advice and help during my visit.

Lovely hotel

Overall a nice stay at The Champs, staff were friendly and nice and will always help you, breakfast was good, restaurant is good, lovely food and good range of drinks on offer.
Views from the hotel are the best, sunset watching was amazing.
In a good location, hour from airport, near Cabrits national park and Indian river tour.
Bedrooms had everything you need, fresh cold water given everyday in the fridge, room tidied everyday. Air-conditioning worked fine.
Hotel is high up, once you arrive there are flights of steps to get down to the rooms.
Overall a good stay.
