Overview

The rustic cabins of the Chisos Mining Company Motel are a great value for families visiting Big Bend National Park. Don’t expect anything fancy, just a clean and comfortable space big enough for a family of six to sleep on two double beds and two twin beds. Each cabin also includes a kitchen with full-sized refrigerator, stovetop, oven, microwave, coffee maker and a good supply of dishes and utensils. Best of all is the air conditioning, which you’ll need if you visit during the summer. There is no TV, but you won’t need it after a long day of exploring the park. The Wi-Fi works if you’re on the porch of your cabin, but the metal roofs interfere with it when you’re inside.

Chisos Mining Company Motel is located in the remote desert town of Terlingua on the edge of Big Bend National Park. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the motel, including quite a few BBQ and Tex-Mex eateries. You will definitely want to make a reservation for the gourmet meals and live entertainment at Starlight Theater Restaurant and Saloon, which is 4 miles away in the part of Terlingua known as “Ghost Town Texas.” There, you’ll also find an historic cemetery, abandoned buildings, and a self-guided walking tour of the town. Terlingua is now home to many tour companies that can set you up with rafting, hiking, and horseback riding trips into the desert. If you visit the town in November, you’ll also experience one of the biggest chili championship cookoffs in the world. With its close proximity to Big Bend National Park and its great value for large families, the Chisos Mining Company Motel is an ideal choice for your family’s epic Texas adventure.

Gets the job done, But not much more

by FifiBojangles

We stayed here while visiting Big Bend. Older motel but it got the job done. Everything worked and we had no problems. Pretty basic, bed was OK, sheets and towels average, bad pillow. The AC worked very well. No refrigerator or microwave. Room was good size but shower area was tiny. Price was a bit high but not really for the area. Better to stay in Terlingua then in the national park because you have bars and restaurants to go to at night. Also, you can’t flush any toilet paper, it has to go in a bucket. I understand but still did not like. Front desk was friendly. Hard to believe the only way to book a room is to have to send a check when you book it (really?) I would think the stairs up to the room would be a OSHA violation, someone is going to break their neck with a wrong step, maybe grandfathered in? Good place for stargazing. Would probably stay again.

Handy location to stay when enjoying Big Bend.

My wife and I stayed two nights here while visiting Big Bend. It is a modest motel, but clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We met some interesting travelers as we watched some beautiful sunsets.
