See recent posts by Caroline Morse Teel

The gates of Disney World and Disneyland are closed, and the parks sit empty amid the pandemic. Disney Cruise ships remain at port. If you’ve already bought tickets or booked a vacation and want to know what your options are for refunds or cancelations, here are the policies:

Walt Disney World

All Disney World theme parks, Disney Resort hotels, and the Disney Springs area are closed until further notice. However, Walt Disney World is currently accepting reservations for travel dates starting on June 1.

Here are the current cancelation/refund policies for Walt Disney World:

Theme Park Tickets: Tickets with unused days or for specific dates will automatically be extended to be valid through Dec. 15, 2020. Or, you can apply the value of the unused ticket towards the purchase of a ticket at a future date.

Tickets for Disney After Hours, Disney Villains After Hours, Disney Early Morning Magic, and Disney H2O Glow Nights occurring before the end of the park’s closure will be automatically refunded.

Disney Resort Hotels: Disney is waiving change and cancelation fees up to the date of check-in for reservations with arrivals through June 30. If your reservation was impacted by the park closure, you may be eligible for a special vacation package offer from Disney that includes accommodations, park admission, and a Disney dining plan.

Disney will automatically cancel reservations occurring during the closure period, and refund your money, if you have not reached out to change or cancel your booking seven days before your scheduled check-in date.

Cancelation fees from third-party suppliers (like airlines or rental cars) and travel protection plan charges will not be refunded.

Annual Passes: All Disney World Resort theme park and water park annual passes will be extended for by the number of days that the park was closed. Or, passholders who have prepaid for the year can choose to receive a partial refund by calling V.I.PASSHOLDER Support at (4707)-939-7277.

Passholders on a monthly payment plan can postpone their monthly payments.

Dining and Experiences: All dining and experience reservations during the closure period will be automatically canceled, and any pre-paid money refunded.

Disneyland

All Disneyland Resort theme parks, hotels, and the Downtown Disney District are closed until further notice. Disneyland is currently accepting reservations for travel dates starting on June 1.

Here are the current cancelation/refund policies for Disneyland.

Theme Park Tickets:

  • Unused single day and multi-day will remain valid until the ticket’s expiration date.
  • The expiration date on promotional child tickets will be extended through Dec. 15, 2020.
  • Unused Canada, Australia, and New Zealand Resident tickets will have their expiration date extended through May 31, 2021.

Annual Passes: All Disneyland annual passes will be extended for by the number of days that the park was closed. Or, passholders who have prepaid for the year can choose to receive a partial refund by calling (714) 781-4567.

All monthly payments on annual passes were automatically stopped on April 5, and payments made between March 14 and April 4 will be refunded. The regular payment schedule will resume when the parks reopen.

Hotel Reservations and Vacation Packages: Any Disney-imposed change and cancelation fees will be waived up to the date of check-in for arrivals through June 30. If you’re unable to get in touch with Disneyland before your check-in date, Disneyland will continue to waive change and cancelation fees after your check-in date.

Guests with cancelled reservations may be eligible for a special offer from Disneyland Resort hotels—call (714) 520-5050 to learn more.

Dining and Activity Reservations: Any dining and activity reservations booked for a date that the park is closed will automatically be canceled and refunded.

Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival Events: Any events scheduled during the closure will be automatically canceled and the tickets refunded.

Disneyland After Dark: Villains Nite: Disneyland is working on rescheduling the date for this event from April 30. Tickets will be automatically valid on the new date, or you can call (714) 781-4636 for assistance.

Disney Cruise Line

All departures have been canceled through May 17, with a longer cancelation period (up to June 7) for certain ships including the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

Disney is offering the choice of a cruise credit (valid on a future sailing within 15 months of the original sale date) or a full refund to canceled cruisers.

If you booked your cruise directly through Disney and have questions, you can call them at 866-325-6685. Click here to see the full list of impacted sailings and cancelation policies.
