Overview

Embassy Suites is a trusted name for families, with spacious accommodations that feel like apartments — kitchenettes included. Add a location just steps from the White House, National Mall and a metro station (three blocks to be exact), and you’ve officially set your family up for a successful visit in Washington D.C.

Better yet, Embassy Suites Washington D.C. – Convention Center provides family-friendly packages to combine the best of both worlds — the promotions encourage families to get out and explore in return for savings and other perks at the hotel.

Of course, an onsite pool, complimentary breakfast and evening receptions (with games and snacks just for kids) round out the fun.

Some problems that need fixing

by Vikas D

Great rooms with lots of space, great evening reception, great breakfast. Great location near convention center. Some major problems with their rooms keys not working and no digital key yet at this property. The TVs in the fitness center ellipticals were not working properly.

family-friendly hotel with complete amenities

by Expedition691221

Staff are so accommodating. The service is super! The facilities are complete from free wifi for Hilton members up to pay when you use washing machine and dryer in the basement. The rooms are big! Location is just walking distance to the Convention center, with fast food nearby. CVS is just across the street. There is free snacks and drinks from 5:40-7:30 pm!!!

Family Activities

Indoor Pool
The hotel has a small, saltwater pool, open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (sometimes midnight) daily. The pool is approximately 6 feet deep, and towels are provided. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult to access the pool; there isn't a lifeguard on duty. There's a hot tub next to the pool.

Packages
The hotel offers several family-friendly packages, including Show Me Your Washington. Kids are given a miniature puppet of George Washington and are tasked with photographing him at attractions throughout the city. Once photos (minimum of five) are posted to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with #SMYW, guests receive 50 percent off their final night at the hotel. The package only costs $11 more than best available rates, so it's a wise (and fun!) choice for families. Similar packages are also offered.

Family Dining

Finn & Porter Restaurant
Finn & Porter specializes in steak and seafood, and while it doesn't have a specific children's menu, kid-friendly options are available (burgers, fish and chips, nachos). It's open to hotel guests and the general public, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 11:30 to 12:30 a.m., Friday and Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Note: Finn & Porter will be rebranded and fully operational under a new name by late-2015.

Complimentary Breakfast
Complimentary breakfast is served at Finn & Porter daily, and options include a full breakfast buffet, as well as a made-to-order omelet station. Breakfast is served 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The only downside is the restaurant gets extremely crowded (typical for complimentary breakfast at most hotels), and lines can get long, even just to get a cup of coffee. Try to arrive early or go late.

Evening Receptions
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. daily, the hotel hosts complimentary evening receptions with hors d'oeuvres, plus snacks for little ones. The hotel also provides lots of board games during the event, and with an open space and plenty of seating in what's called the "Comp Bar," it's a great way to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

Room Service
If you're too tired to go out, order in-suite service -- both a food and beverage menu are available, as are separate kids' options. Youngsters can choose from cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, grilled chicken, salmon and grilled cheese, plus a selection of sides. Room service is provided by Finn & Porter (though the menu is different), thus hours are the same. A $3 delivery fee and 21 percent gratuity are automatically added to the bill.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi isn't available in most guestrooms, but you can access it in the lobby, along with three kiosks located throughout the building. Otherwise, it's $9.95 per day, with the option to upgrade to faster service for $14.95. If you are a member of HHilton Rewards (Gold and Diamond), Wi-Fi is free.

Gift Shop
If you forgot something or are looking for a last-minute souvenir to take home, head to the gift shop in the lobby, located next to the reception desk.

Concierge
Also in the lobby is a ticket desk, where you can arrange visits to local attractions or simply ask for tips.

Laundry Service
The hotel offers a coin-operated laundry facility, and laundry detergent is available in the gift shop.

Fitness Center
The hotel offers a small fitness center, with treadmills, elliptical machines and free weights. It's open 5 a.m. to midnight daily.

Business Center
Free Wi-Fi is available in the business center, where you'll also find a printer. You can print boarding passes, tickets and more for 25 cents per page.

Check-In/Check-Out
Check-in is at 3 p.m. and check-out is at noon.

The Art of Smart Timing
The hotel is consistently busy, especially during the months of May, June and July, along with the weeks following Thanksgiving into Christmas. Visit in the fall to enjoy ideal weather and slightly fewer crowds.

Getting There
Fly into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport or Washington Dulles International Airport, and either rent a car or better yet, utilize public transportation. Public transportation to and from the airport is available via Super Shuttle (shared vans) or the Metrorail, which stops just three blocks from the hotel.

Getting Around
Valet parking is $41 per night, with in-and-out privileges. The valet parking staff is especially friendly and accommodating. Self-parking isn't available. Utilize public transportation (you won't want to drive around the city, trust us). Enjoy walking to various local attractions -- many are just 1 mile from the hotel.

For Mom and Dad
Enjoy a meal at Finn & Porter, or head to nearby CityCenterDC, a complex with upscale stores and boutiques, restaurants and entertainment outlets. It's especially festive at Christmastime (though you'll want to bring the kids along for that).
