Puts the “ahhh” in Bahamas

by 837AllanM

If you’re seeking the “honeymoon-perfect” “lux boutique hotel” experience, you’re not the type for here.

If you’re the type who posts a photo of a chipped shower tile or mineral crusting on the outdoor faucet, you’re not ready yet.

But if you love authentic Bahamian charm, appreciate the thought and care that go into sweet touches everywhere, with an amazing strip of white sand on aqua water where you will be almost alone, you’re really going to like FBV.

THE FOOD!: The food is fresh and nicely prepared but we’re older and conscious of health and calories and they catered to us without any fuss. Grilled (yes, truly grilled) mahi-mahi, grilled tuna, grilled grouper, grilled lobster tails became our rotation for our two weeks here. Always with fresh vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) sautéed in olive oil and garlic to perfection (you know... not overdone). No fresh juices but fresh fruit. Wines are very reasonable for an island... a good Beringer Chardonnay is $30 a bottle; a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is $25.

THE STAFF!!: While its small size is a major part of its appeal (peace and quiet), FBV is very well staffed... responsible for your overall experience, Darryl and Kisha are ceaselessly caring and positive and never far from the reception area and your needs. Wait staff including Victoria (Vicky), Danricka (Dee), and supervisor Crystal quickly learned all our preferences and catered to us with warm-hearted attention at every meal. Chef Karen produces an outstanding level of island cuisine (she is a true force in the kitchen where she is in command 3-4 nights a week, with her lieutenant taking charge other evenings) and the evenings when Etric Bannister sang island songs with his gentle guitar were especially charming.

THE BEACH!!!: The beach and water are truly truly perfection. You could be spending $1K a night and feel justified by the quality of the beach. The palapias (sp?) are a bit aged but rather large so you can be in full shade without adjusting your chair every 15 minutes for the sun’s movement.

THE ROOMS: Charming, island-rustic decor and very comfortable. We were in end unit Royal Palm which we loved. And housekeeping is EXCELLENT... bright white thick waffle weave blankets, lots of crisp-cased pillows, bright white fluffy large towels, face towels, wash cloths and bath mats (thicker towels you put in the floor to step into from the shower). Tile floors always mopped so walking barefoot in your room will be a pleasure.

Easy, lots to enjoy, nothing to irritate or call on your patience. Highly recommended, especially if you’ve been stressed and need to totally unwind and clear your head while feeding your eyes and tummies and soul.

Was here just one night and Darryl changed the over all experience . He was welcoming and accommodating. Victoria at lunch made sure we were fed even when we got to lunch just before 2

It was great!

The rooms were clean and welcoming with these outdoor showers. Waves outside were relaxing and the view was amazing. so glad we chose Fernandez Bay
