TripAdvisor Rating

The General Palmer is located in heart of downtown Durango. It is also the only 4-Diamond/4-Star hotel in the town. Steeped in history, the hotel was built in 1898, so expect lots of Victorian charm and décor throughout the hotel, lobby, restaurant and bar. Families will be especially pleased to know the hotel offers two different family suites; one includes a queen bed and two full-size beds. The queen bed is located in a separate bedroom, with the two full-size beds located in the main room.

For breakfast, there are a couple of onsite dining options. There’s a continental breakfast option at the hotel, or you can grab a full breakfast at the Lone Spur Cafe.

Nice place

by MadisonBoy

Stayed at the General Palmer Halloween night. It is a nice property if you like historic old hotels, the room was warm and comfortable and the furnishings are all authentic period. The staff was very friendly and the location right on main makes for easy access to restaraunts and night clubs. We would stay here again.

Poor Customer Relations

by Havingfun196

My husband and I booked this hotel 45 days in advance for a very special weekend in Colorado. Our booking specifically guaranteed room 211, or so we thought. Upon arrival we were given an alternate room. When asked why, the manager, wearing her most professional gray hoodie, told us another customer was given our room for reasons she could not disclose. We were shown a nice room, but not similar enough to the one we had booked. When asked if we could get compensated for our inconvenience, the manager could take not make that decision on her own, and we'd have to wait 3 days before knowing if her boss Shannon would allow this. So it's obvious that General Palmer has no commitment to confirmed bookings, management onsite has no authority, and due to this we will not return to this hotel nor recommend it to colleagues, friends, nor family. The only positive feedback and consideration is to the the front desk agent Jessie who was understanding, polite, and showed genuine thoughtfulness.
