Grand Hyatt Kauai

by newbie789

The Grand Hyatt is just what you would expect - phenomenal. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. Instead of bottle water, they give you a water bottle and have refill stations all over the resort. I love this! The pool was breath taking. We had such a great time going down the water slide with our daughter. I would highly recommend this resort.

Family Activities

There are dozens of kid-friendly activities at the resort, including swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, water volleyball, tennis, cliff walks and mountain biking. The resort has two enormous swimming pools, with winding rivers and waterfalls, and a 150-foot waterslide. A cool addition are the man-made saltwater swimming lagoons, where you can relax on floating chairs, or kayak across five acres. There is a public beach, Shipwreck Beach, just steps from the resort, but it is not for swimming as the current is too strong especially for children. You'll often see locals there on boards catching waves; but for casual swimming and snorkeling try Poipu Beach which is only about five minutes from the resort.

Grand Hyatt Kauai has an 18-hole championship golf course, and a variety of packages include golfing, with special youth golf programs available.

Camp Hyatt Kauai is the hotel's kids' program, for potty-trained (no pull-ups allowed) children ages 3 to 12. It runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. every day and reservations are requested by 6 p.m. the night before. Kids will participate in activities like Koi fish feeding, face painting, bracelet and lei making, hula lessons, and cultural lessons about Hawaiians and the local wildlife. They can also participate in Parrot Talk, an interactive session about the local parrots, where they get to hold and touch the birds. Babysitting is also available for a fee.

Kids will also love Hyatt's Cranium Game Library which is filled with fun family games, and they'll get a complimentary Cranium game trial pack at check-in.

Family Dining

The Hyatt Kauai has half a dozen dining options, most of which are family-friendly, a few of which are Zagat award winners. The Yum Cha Asian Eatery serves Asian Fusion in a casual family-friendly atmosphere on the golfcourse, and with a special Asian-themed kids' menu and virgin house drinks, this a great option. The Poipu Bay Clubhouse also serves breakfast and lunch daily, along with a Sunday brunch, and overlooks the golf course. Ilima Terrace is a secluded spot which serves a large buffet breakfast daily, as well as sandwiches and salads for lunch. Tidepools is open for dinner, and serves authentic Hawaiian cuisine, with a good selection of seafood. For a light and healthy breakfast or lunch, try the spa cafe. Dondero's serves Italian indoors or out, but its menu caters more to adults.

Two nights a week (on Sundays and Thursdays) the hotel holds a Polynesian Luau buffet, complete with local dancers, music, open bar, Hawaiian crafts, and Hula lessons. Reservations are recommended.

All Hyatt resorts also have special kids' menu available upon request, and while dining, children will receive an interactive placemat to enjoy during the meal.
