Overview

Washington D.C.’s Grant Hyatt has always been, well, grand, but a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2015 brought it to an impeccable, unparalleled splendor for every type of traveler — the businessperson, the couple and perhaps most notably, the family.

Upgrades have brought new meeting space to the hotel, along with a gorgeous atrium-style lobby that’s surrounded by a few family-friendly restaurants and shops, plus a fitness center. Guestrooms — which offer city vistas or views of the atrium — offer all the comforts of home, from the hotel’s signature beds to free Wi-Fi.

Guests enjoy free Wi-Fi, coffeemakers, deluxe toiletries, giant work desks (great for board games and snacks) and 42-inch, flat-screen TVs. They also enjoy the brand's signature bedding, Hyatt Grand Beds (available for purchase). Cribs and rollaway beds are available upon request, as is turndown service.

Standard Rooms
Standard Rooms have one king, one queen or two double beds, and feature views of the property's beautiful atrium. These units typically sleep up to four guests -- occasionally five with the use of a rollaway bed or crib.

Business Plan
Don't be fooled by the name -- these rooms also accommodate up to four or five guests. The difference between these accommodations and Standard Rooms is Business Plan Rooms include free breakfast for one person (stick to the standard room).

Pure - Hypo-Allergenic
The Pure - Hypo-Allergenic Rooms are a godsend for those with seasonal allergies. Rooms are treated in a six-step process that includes the application of PURE Shield, a barrier that blocks allergens on room surfaces. These rooms have one king or two queen beds.

Grand Club
These rooms, exclusively situated on the 12th floor, grant guests access to the Grand Club, where they enjoy complimentary breakfast and snacks, along with alcohol for an additional fee. Grand Club Rooms come in two variations: Grand Club King and Grand Club Double, the latter sleeping four to five guests.

Atrium View

Trip to Washington DC

by Andre Y

On my Trip to Washington DC I stayed in a amazing, well located in heart of Washington DC (very near the White House and very near the metro). The breakfast was very good with a lot of options. It was amazing!!

Good Hotel and Location

by mimisy63

I like this hotel as it is close to the Smithsonian museum 10 min walk. Close to lots of stores around, very close to China town. The hotel has Grand Club where you can have Breakfast and light dinner so with little kids that helps with time saving and I dont need to think what to give them especially when you come back and so tired to prepare anything or eat outside.

Family Activities

Pool
The hotel has a small, indoor pool, situated next to the fitness center. It's heated and provides a reprieve after days spent sightseeing in D.C. There is no lifeguard on duty and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Nearby Activities
Grand Hyatt Washington is less than 15 minutes (on foot) to National Mall, where you'll find the Smithsonian Museums, Washington Monument and other must-visit sites. Contact concierge for additional tips and ideas for local activities.

Family Dining

Cabinet
Located on the hotel's basement level, Cabinet is a brand new (opened in 2014), hip facility. The restaurant is most popular for breakfast, with a buffet and an a la carte menu, but lunch is also served. Cabinet is open 6:30 to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Cure Bar & Bistro
Cure Bar & Bistro is a trendy, yet cozy restaurant, with a large fireplace and cushy chairs in which to relax. The restaurant specializes in cured meats and the ever-so-popular farm-to-table dining experience. Options include bacon mac and cheese, ricotta dumplings and a delicious shrimp and oyster pan roast. Try the Milk and Honey (goat cheese, toasted almonds and local, apple honey) for dessert.

While it appears to be an adults-only hangout, youngsters are always welcome. The chef is happy to prepare meals for little ones, and the restaurant's dress code is casual.

Cure Bar & Bistro is open 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. to midnight on Sunday. Reservations are highly recommended.

Starbucks
There's a Starbucks in the lobby, open 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. It's open to hotel guests and the general public.

Room Service
If you don't feel like leaving your room to eat, the hotel offers room service from 6:30 a.m. to 1 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 6:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. A 21-percent service charge and $4 delivery fee apply to all orders. While a separate kids' menu isn't offered, half portions of some entrees (chicken tenders, ham and cheese sandwiches and the like) are available at half price for children ages 12 and under.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available throughout the property and complimentary to all guests.

Fitness Center
The hotel offers FIT Club, a fitness facility that puts other gyms to shame. It's so extensive that many non-guests have monthly memberships. The facility features several rooms, some with machines and others dedicated to classes.

Gift Shops
The hotel offers two gift shops, where you can purchase snacks, beverages, toiletries and souvenirs. There's also a floral shop onsite.

Laundry Facility
Onsite laundry facilities are available, and laundry detergent is available at the gift shops should you need it.

Check-In/Check-Out
Check-in is at 3 p.m. and check-out is at noon. Conveniently, the hotel offers self check-in kiosks to speed up the process.

The Art of Smart Timing
Even though the Grand Hyatt Washington swells with business travelers throughout the year, it's especially busy during the spring (National Cherry Blossom Festival) and summer. If you're willing to make a trip in the winter months, particularly January or February, you'll enjoy fewer crowds and slightly lower rates.

Getting There
If traveling to Washington D.C. by plane, opt to fly into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport or Washington Dulles International Airport; the latter is serviced by more flights, though the former is closer to the hotel (5 miles).

Getting Around
Like most hotels in D.C., the Grand Hyatt charges a steep fee for parking. Guests have the option to self-park for $35 per night (no in/out privileges) or utilize valet parking for $45 per night (with in/out privileges). If parking temporarily, the cost is $20 for up to two hours and $30 for two to eight hours. We suggest self-parking for $35 -- you don't need the in/out privileges with so many attractions near the hotel.

For Mom and Dad
Sneak downstairs for a handcrafted cocktail at Cure Bar & Bistro, or, if grandma and grandpa can watch the kids, head to Zaytinya -- a four-minute walk from the hotel. The restaurant serves delicious tapas; reservations are a must.
