See a Bridge, Pier 39 & Sea Lions. Not San Fran but Hampton Inn, Astoria

This was our Conference hotel although our programmes were held at the adjacent Pier 39.
We had a great room with a balcony and river view, out to Astoria’s Pier 39 and down river to the amazing Megler Bridge; unfortunately it was too rainy for much balcony use but from the comfort of the room you could still get a great view. Ships were moored out in the river and it was fun to see them swing on their anchor chains as the tide changed.
The room was comfortable with a good bed & pillows. A small fridge (no freezer compartment), microwave, coffee machine. The closet is “hidden” behind the mirror and having just listened to an audio book of Absolute Power finding the opening of the closet seemed appropriate – there isn’t a handle (I did get in but it wasn’t a 2 way mirror !), there you’ll find an iron and board. Nice bathroom with a walk-in shower (no tub) also a hairdryer. All was very clean.
Breakfast is included with the room; there was a good choice of items, the hot foods changing daily, eggs, sausage, bacon etc. fruits, juices, waffles, cereals and bakery items. The tea and coffee is available all day. Plenty of seating, cozy up to the fire if you feel a bit chilly.
There is a pool, hot tub and workout room although we did not use any of those.
Like Pier 39 in San Francisco this is a sea lion hangout which can be rather loud for some folks apparently – at reception they will supply you with ear plugs if you need them.
Check-in was easy, all staff very pleasant especially Sierra our housekeeping lady.
There is free parking and free wi-fi.
Easy access to the river walk and the Astoria Riverfront Trolley which sadly was not running the days we were there. Never mind though it is a nice walk along the river, even in the rain, and it took us about 25 minutes to reach the Maritime Museum. There are also various eating places within a short walk of the hotel.
It was an enjoyable stay.
