The apartment-style accommodations have everything you need to feel right at home during your beach vacation in Montauk. Kitchens, connecting rooms, Wi-Fi and more make it easy for guests of all ages to enjoy time at the motel.

Whether staying for just a few nights or a full week, Hartman’s Briney Breezes is a great option for families. Slightly removed from the downtown area, the property is still close to mini golf, Gosman’s Dock and the Montauk Point Lighthouse, though activities are available right at the property. A quiet beach is located just across the street, and kids can splash in the onsite heated pool or run around with a soccer ball or Frisbee on the grass lawn areas, too.

Barbecue grills and picnic tables are available for family meals, though restaurants and cafes are also within walking distance. Following dinner, evenings should be spent relaxing on your room’s balcony, sipping wine from a local winery and watching the sunset while playing a board game with the kids.

Reviews

Wonderful stay!

by FTuruta

When we first had to make the reservation I thought we were going to run into trouble, however; it was the nicest time away in Montauk. Everything was clean and well cared for. I don’t have any complaints just plenty of compliments. Check in was really nice and easy. The owner was very accommodating and nice. They rooms have been remodeled and are lovely. We will be back since we only live an hour and a half away and come out to Montauk almost every summer.

Much more than we'd bargained for!

Chatted with Jen when we arrived and felt as though we'd known each other our entire lives. Expansive room--felt like a suite!--with all the amenities one could want and need. We didn't ask to face the ocean, but we did, giving us the view of views. Cross Old Montauk Highway and you're on the beach. (NOTHING matches Long Island sand!). The main part of town is an easy walk. The lighthouse is six miles away. If you're going to Montauk, stay here!

Family Activities

Beaches
Hartman's Briney Breezes Motel is across the street from a quiet, secluded public beach. It is an easy walk from every guestroom or suite, though there are stairs that you'll have to walk down to get to the sand. There is no admission for this beach; it is free. However, there are no lifeguards. The motel has a limited number of beach chairs and toys left over from past guests. Visit the front desk before taking any of the supplies; they are all complimentary.

If you want to visit a beach with lifeguards, head to Kirk Beach, which has free parking and is located in the center of town.

Pool
The motel's pool is located in the middle of its property, and can be seen from just about every guestroom or suite balcony. Nevertheless, children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times when visiting the pool. There are no lifeguards on duty.

The pool is heated and ranges in depth from 3 to 5 feet. It is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper in the pool. There are lounge chairs surrounding the pool area, and it is enclosed by a gate.

Board Games
The front desk has a bookshelf with board games that guests can sign out. They are complimentary and include classic games for both little kids and teens.

Lawn Area
The motel's property has grassy areas on which kids can run and play. Some are bordered by thick bushes so parents won't have to worry about balls rolling into the main street at the edge of the property. They are, however, surrounded by the motel's parking lot, so cars may be pulling in and out as needed. Parents can also enjoy sitting at picnic tables near the barbecue grills in these areas, too.

Montauk
Walk, bike or drive the half-mile to the center of town for shopping, restaurants, mini golf and more. Gosman's Dock is a short five-minute drive from the motel and offers shopping and dining on the water. The Montauk Point Lighthouse is about a 15-minute drive from the motel.

The Hamptons
If you have a car, drive to the other towns in the Hamptons for wineries, museums, shops, restaurants and more. All are within driving distance. On a rainy day, head to the East Hampton Library, which is in East Hampton, the closest town to Montauk.

Family Dining

There is no onsite dining at the Hartman's Briney Breezes Motel, though all rooms have kitchenettes or kitchens, which allow for cooking and keeping cold food chilled. Stop at the local IGA supermarket in town for supplies and necessities before checking into your room for your stay. Barbecue grills are available for family meals, too.

Walk, bike or drive into town for meals, or head next door to The Surfside Inn Restaurant. It is walking distance for any family, though those with little ones in tow are encouraged to dine before 6 p.m. Prices average around $25 per adult entrée.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
PeaPod Orders
Prior to your arrival, contact the hotel and ask about setting up a PeaPod order with a local supermarket. You can place your order for groceries and have them delivered directly to your guestroom or suite for a fee.

Complimentary Toiletries
If you forget toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, tissues, or anything along those lines, head to the front desk. They have complimentary toiletries for guests as needed.

Check-In and Check-Out
Check-in is at 3 p.m., though special arrangements can be made for guests arriving after 8 p.m. Check-out is at 11 a.m.

Parking
Parking is free for all registered guests.

The Art of Smart Timing
Hartman's Briney Breezes Motel is open mid-March to early November and is closed in the winter. The weather in the Hamptons is chilly until May, when it warms up for the summer months, until about September. The towns are along the water, so light jackets or sweaters may be needed in the mornings or evenings. The best time to visit is in the spring or fall when the beaches are free.

Getting There
The motel is about 90 minutes from the Long Island MacArthur Airport. After driving down Montauk Highway through the other towns in the Hamptons, you'll reach the town of Montauk. Look for signs for Old Montauk Highway and make a right. The motel is less than a half-mile down the road.

Getting Around
Bring bikes, take the car or enjoy walking to most of the attractions in the area. You can easily walk to the beach and restaurants, though you'll need bikes to get to mini golf or Gosman's Dock, and you'll need a car to see the lighthouse.

For Mom and Dad
If the kids can watch themselves, head next door to the Surfside Inn Restaurant for a romantic dinner, complete with ocean views. If you can't get away for a date night, pick up wine on your way to the motel and sip it on the balcony while listening to the calming sound of the waves. Tip: Book a two-bedroom suite and you'll have more privacy.
