The Hayes Mansion was built in the 1800s by Mary Hayes Chynoweth, a prominent force of a woman who became known as the Matriarch of Edenvale. The home was originally a Victorian mansion featuring a main mansion and two identical, connecting mansions to house the sons, Everis and Jay, who were also renowned in the community as lawyers, businessmen and politicians in San Jose. When fire ravished the home, it was rebuilt in a similar style in 1904, and is the main building of the current Dolce Hotels’ property.
The City of San Jose bought the Hayes Mansion in the 1970s and turned the historic building into a conference center. Adding a second building with 127 guestrooms and then an additional 82 guestrooms in a third building, the hotel offers 214 room types, with five suites located in the original mansion. Today, the property is mainly one that attracts conference and wedding goers, but its facilities also make it one families turn to for hosting large family events and reunions. However, small families passing through San Jose will find its amenities and suites comfortable for weekend getaways and local staycations.

Rooms at the Hayes Mansion can be found in the original mansion or in its newer conference area facility. There are more than 200 rooms available with queen and king bed options. All rooms include Wi-Fi access, small refrigerators, and coffeemakers, as well as flat-screen TVs. Rollaway beds and cribs are available.
Standard rooms with a king or queen can only accommodate two guests, but double queens, starting at 400 square feet can sleep four. There are only eight double kings versus 68 king rooms, so these book fast.
For more room, suites are available. The junior suite can only accommodate two people, but the queen suite in the mansion sleeps four in 600 square feet of space. A parlor suite with queen bed can sleep four in 500 square feet of space. Suites feature sitting areas with sofa beds. Five of the mansion's original bedrooms have been converted into one- and two-bedroom suites. The remaining 209 rooms are located in separate buildings.
