First the good. Our room was fantastic. super clean, plenty of room and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was great and it was affordable. So, why the 3 stars? Honestly, this would have been a 5 if not for the following: I did an internal sigh as soon as I went to check in. I was told that I had to check in at the VIP Desk. At the VIP desk I was taken into the back to "check in". That's when the hard sell started. Not the hard sell to buy a time share, just the hard sell to go to the harder sell (we will give you money to go to the sales presentation). I declined...multiple times. Over 30 minutes later I was checked in. As long as you can deal with this, stay here.
Unfortunately, this is the worst vacation property I have stayed at for years. The salesperson on the call that solicited us to come said that we would be staying at a luxury resort and that it would be free if we would attend a two hour presentation. Be warned in advance that it is not a real resort, and it may not be free. It was not free for us. We arrived late and got after four hours of sleep to be on time to the presentation. My Spouse misplaced her Drivers License at the last minute, and they used this as a flimsy excuse to charge us for our stay. They tried to explain that they can’t show us real estate without a state issued ID, but this is not a law in any state that I am aware of, and I did have my ID.
The amenities are not at all luxury here, and we would never have stayed in this “resort” had we not thought it would be free. I wrote them five days ago and asked them to return the money to us but there has been no response.
We are Platinum members of IHG, but this experience has really tarnished their reputation with us. The property is really more like an apartment complex, and almost any kind of activity available except for the use of the pool is at an extra charge. It is not even especially close to the historic sites in Williamsburg. Driving there seem to require access to the freeway for us and took around 20 minutes each way.
If you do decide to stay here, be sure to provide a credit card versus a debit card for your check in experience so that you can ask your credit card company for a refund if you are treated unfairly as we were when we were there.
