Reviews

Room was nice, however, it needs some updating

by Scott1539

Room was nice, however, it needs new carpet and the sliding door was old and did not lock. The breakfast area was better than average with good selections. The hotel is right on lake Huron, but protected from the winds so pleasant even on a windy day.

This hotel needs thorough updating and cleaning. Accessible room bath not safe.

Hotel needs much updating and cleaning.

I have stayed at many different Holiday Inn Express hotels, generally they are a great value. However I was very surprised by the downtrodden condition of this hotel, and the staff, whom with the exception of the breakfast crew seemed to wish they were not working there at all. The "great staff" listed on a different review here must have been on holiday.

We reserved two different rooms. My room with two beds was comfortable and had a view of the lake, but the floors in the bedroom and bathroom were not clean. The upholstered chair was stained and I hesitated to sit in it. There was soap but no shampoo. The safety lock on the door was broken, hanging by the hinge.

The second room was an "Accessible" room that I reserved for my friend. She uses a Walker to get around. The room was on the ground floor facing a large public area, so there was no privacy unless she closed the curtains, even though the room is advertised as a "lake view" room. The floor carpet was stained and needed cleaning. My friend adds this recommendation: "the shower is not as safe as it could be for a person using a walker, as I do. The floor is slippery and needs a safety mat. Vertical bars at both ends of the shower would be helpful. I imagine the wide space between the controls and the seat is for a wheelchair, but someone not in a wheelchair cannot reach the faucet handle while seated on the bench."

Finally, despite my being an IHG member for many years, when I asked at the front desk why my bill was not provided at my room in the morning, the person frowned, gave me an accusatory look, and said "we don't do that here". As if I might be trying to sneak out of the hotel. I won't be back. If you do have to stay here I suggest viewing the room before you check in.
