Once DeLuxe, now seen better days.

This was my go to hotel for the last ten years and i stayed here almost every year for that many years. Recently so much maintenance has been "deferred." The heating system in winter is insufficient and some beds are no longer good. I would try out the bed before you agree to a room. The staff is lovely and compassionate but they cannot make up for the big issues. There is also a surprise amenities fee for not much...it would be one thing if the amenities were outstanding, but the coffee is not great, not compared to some of Portland's excellent coffees. Gracies is hit and miss...i paid $7 for gluten free toast for breakfast...but the Driftwood happy hour menu is nice. This was a premier property. It seems to have gone downhill to me but a renovation is planned for a few years out. I guess i'll try it again after it gets its update.

Watch out for the “amenities fee” to be deceptively added onto the price of the room. And for what? The complimentary water in the lobby?
I don’t return to establishments that practice such shady money grubbing techniques.
Also we ate at Gracies for brunch. We were there a little after 7 am and were the first and only guests at that time. After we sat we realized the bench type of booth was very uncomfortable and so we asked our waiter (Terri), if we could move to an adjacent table with normal chairs. He rudely said he didn’t know and he’ll have to ask the hostess because there are reservations. We looked around, and we’re still the only ones there. The professional way to handle that would have been to say “I’m sure we can accommodate you but let me just run it by the hostess first just to make sure there isn’t a party with this particular table reserved.” Then when we moved the waiter didn’t even offer to move my wife’s water glass from the other table nor did he fill her new glass. The food was good but nothing near worth getting treated like that from a server. There are plenty of amazing restaurants around Portland that also know how to treat a guest.
